Sample Letter Informing Customers of Price Increase

By | December 12, 2016

The world of economics is ever so changing and dynamic. One second ago transporting your goods was cheap and now fuel prices have shot up so high, they look down upon Mt. Everest. It is understandable that in an unstable economy, your prices would go up and down. It doesn’t matter if you are a manufacturer, transporter or retail salesman, the price of your service or products may change any moment. Usually, this happens on very short notice, but your customers still deserve a heads-up.

It is not only ethical and courteous, it saves you the time and effort of telling each and every irate customer individually why the soap costs five cents more.

Here are some tips and tricks to write a letter informing your valued customers of the price increase.

Be Sincere
Make sure they know you still care about them and you’re still the same service, company or store they have been coming to for years, and you’re not transforming into an evil profit hungry monster. Your customers are loyal and trust you, so deliver the blow softly. Take care with your words and keep them kind.

Remember Your Importance
As much as you need to remain sincere to your customers, you need to understand that you are lifting the prices for a valid reason, and they should at least understand, if they’re not okay with it. Do not fret if you are visited by too many irate customers. Well informed customers who see your quality will be alright with the price increase.

Make It Easier For Everyone
I know you might feel like you don’t have to tell them why the product costs more than usual, but it would be easier for everyone if they register a valid reason in their minds. This will only increase the bond between seller and buyer.

I automatically walk into the same store every time, even though the one next might be cheaper, because I’ve been going there for years, and they always inform everybody about price changes and new policies, and they maintain healthy small talk with their customers. I just like the atmosphere inside that little grocery store, and I sometimes decide to go there instead of Walmart or any other super retailer, just because they’re nice.

Dear Valued Customers:

This is to inform you that there will be a 2.5 % rate increase on all items starting January, 2017. Now to some, this may seem like nothing, but it does make a difference and we would like to apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. I would also want you to know that this price change has occurred all over town, but we actually did the math so we could let you know beforehand.

The price has increased because there is now massive construction going on near our small town and most of the roads, which are regularly used for transporting retail goods, are now blocked, and they have to use an alternative route that is significantly longer. Things may continue to be this way for several months, until they’ve unblocked the roads. I’m sure that most of you are aware of this huge project.

Again, I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I know we will all get through this as a united community.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
