Reply to Compliment Letter from Boss

By | November 19, 2014

Responding to a professional compliment letter especially if it is from a boss requires some thought. You would want to appear grateful without sounding non-professional. At the same time, you would want to be provided with further chances to prove your worth.

It is true that there is nothing more gratifying than being praised for the work you have done. This is especially true if your boss is the one giving you a compliment. A compliment from your boss means that your work has been acknowledged and the months / weeks/ days that you spent working diligently have paid off.

The first thing you need to do when you receive a compliment from your boss is to say thank you. Your “thank you” will act as an ice breaker (even though you might argue that you don’t really need an ice breaker at this point) and will pave the way for what you have to say further. Here is an example you can follow.

Dear Mr. Jackson:

I received your letter brimming with appreciation a while ago and I am completely overwhelmed by your kind words. Appreciation for work is always welcome and the manner in which you demonstrated your thoughts about my contribution to Cooper Up and Away Project have made all the long hours I put into the project worthwhile.

Cooper Up and Away was an amazing opportunity and while I did have qualms about taking it to the heights that it eventually went to, I believe it was not my effort alone. I had a great team who was willing to sacrifice their personal time and work with me afterhours. I believe that the sales we made within the first week of our promotional activities will serve as example to me and my team for future promotional projects.

Your appreciation has not only motivated me to work harder on the next project but has also made the rest of the sales team comfortable in doing a little “extra” to meet deadlines. As representative of the sales team at Cooper Supplies, I would like to meet with you and discuss both the progress we have made with this project and the next one that we are planning.

Thank you once again for your letter of appreciation.

Sincerely,

Joseph Hamilton
