Credit Card Cancellation Letter Sample

By | June 30, 2015

The world is quickly moving from paper money to card – credit and debit cards are swiftly taking over from their paper and metal counterparts and things promise to be much easier with “plastic”. However, many people believe that plastic is not the future of currency – and they hold on to their beliefs that paper money is the best.

Some people use both – paper money and credit cards. If you have been a credit card user in the past, you will know that the trick to using a credit card successfully is to pay into it as much as you spend from it. Unfortunately, many people are unable to do this and run up huge debts. If the credit card is not for you, it is best to pay up as soon as possible and close your credit card account immediately.

Calling up the helpline at the bank to cancel your credit card may not be the right thing to do. For one, the helpline representatives cannot possibly verify that they are talking to the credit card holder and not an imposter. The best way to do this is to write a letter to your bank and cancel your credit card. What goes in a letter of this sort? You will need to provide your credit card number, who it is titled to (your full name) and provide a reason for the cancellation.

Here is a credit card cancellation letter sample for you to refer to:

Mr. Donald Picard
Manager Customer Services – Credit Card Division
Bank of America
89 Palm Street
Western, NE 99832

Dear Mr. Picard:

I am writing to request of cancellation of my Visa credit card issued by Bank of America, effective immediately. Please refer below for details:

Credit Card Number: 1234 5678 9101 1121
Title on Card: Richard Gastung
Expiry day: 11/11/2015

Please refer to the enclosed receipt which shows that I have paid the entire outstanding amount of $1000 on June 23, 2015 – this amount was paid through cash at your branch. This brings my account credit to zero and all financial responsibilities come to a close.

I would appreciate it if you would do the needful on an immediate basis and send me written confirmation that my account has been closed and that the credit card that I have in my possession is no longer active. Also, an intimation that all appropriate credit card bureaus have been duly notified will be highly appreciated.

Please feel free to contact me at (000) 987-0098 if you discover any discrepancies between my records and yours or if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
