Sample Resignation Letter Due to Hostile Work Environment

By | March 10, 2017

There comes the point in our professional lives where we are forced to leave our dream jobs due to a hostile work environment.

Do you feel like you are walking on eggshells all the time?

Is there someone bullying you, harassing you or picking on you at the workplace?

Know that we get it. Been there, done that. That’s why we wanted to share this sample resignation letter due to a hostile work environment, to help you write one of your own, which, believe us, you will consider, after running out of ways to make your situation work. Maybe it is time to move on. You deserve better!

If you are careful, you can withdraw from this futile battle with grace, and the law on your side, even claim damages, armed with the right tools; such as, documenting the incidents, researching federal and state laws, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines, and a use all that to write your resignation letter.

It is important for your legal protection and benefit to outline the previous complaints and documented communication pursuant to those, to show how hard you tried to fix the problem, which your employer failed to fix, and forced you with the only course of action left to you; i.e., quit, and leave your contact information, for potential conciliatory response by the employer.

Mr. Carlton Moore

Moore Industries

Dear Mr. Moore:

This is to inform you of my immediate resignation from the position of Sales Manager, a post to which I was promoted three months ago, and one that my colleagues were at odds with accepting since its announcement in a company-wide email, and only because I am a woman.

Enclosed please find documented proof that not only did my subordinates refuse to carry out the tasks I asked them to do, they continued to be disrespectful and openly expressed their unwillingness to work under a female supervisor.

After filing a formal complaint to HR ref 214, dated 25 May, in which I requested that the incidents be investigated, and appropriate action be taken, to put an end to a hostile work environment purely because of my gender, no action was taken on the part of ABC Company to remedy the situation.

Under the spirit of full disclosure, and also hoping that at least now, you will have the matter investigated, so that no future employees suffer the same, and therefore, I lay out all the facts and recorded communications before you, I trust you will do the right thing.

I would also appreciate it if you could arrange the issuance of my experience and recommendation letters, written by an impartial party, vetted for having no vested interest in the matter, as soon as it is possible. I can be reached at (000) 555-0123, should you have any questions or require any further information.

After ABC Company have repeatedly ignored and dismissed my complaint, despite all the documentary proof I provided, following the standard company procedure, please be informed that a copy of this letter and complete case history (enclosed), are being filed with the EEOC.

Thank you, Mr. Moore, I really loved my work here; I just wish it did not have to end in this manner.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
