Feedback Letter about Child Development from School

By | October 6, 2016

Child development feedback isn’t something that you will see a lot of schools provide. However, schools that are conscientious and concerned about their students make sure that parents are made aware of any development issues or milestones that their child is going through.

A feedback letter about child development is usually sent by a school coordinator / administrator or teacher. The letter details how well the child is developing or if there are any issues that he or she is facing that need to be looked into. A letter of this sort is usually written after a huge amount of rigorous assessment and evaluation – after all, you do not want to say something about a student that has not been properly assessed.

Before writing a letter of this nature, it is important to discuss the child’s progress with a school counselor, who has performed the initial evaluation. While it is not recommended that you write an entire evaluation in the letter, it is imperative to mention what you thought was so important that you had to contact the parents. According to what the policies and protocols of the school are, you can ask the parent to come in and have a talk with the school counselor, or provide suggestions in the letter.

For your benefit, here is a sample feedback letter that you can place in front of you before writing one:

Dear Mrs. Peg:

This letter is being sent to you to provide you with feedback from a recent developmental evaluation that Northside School conducted on all its students. During 3 of the evaluation tests, we came across information to suggest that your child Fiona Peg may need extra assistance during school, and to manage her stress levels.

While stress in students aged 5 to 10 years of age is not a very well-talked about subject, it is something that both institutions and parents need to delve into. Since Fiona falls within this bracket, we evaluated her on the metrics provided to us by the State Health Board, and discovered that she falls within the category of “extreme emotional distress.” As her home away from home, the school is concerned for her emotional wellbeing, (which is properly what is causing her grades to fall as well) and would like to provide all possible assistance to help her develop and grow in a normal environment.

We advise you to contact the school counselor Mrs. Rebecca Jon (who has initially evaluated Fiona) and provide your own input so that we can ensure Fiona’s wellbeing as best as possible. For any further questions, please feel free to call us at (000) 421-4544.

Sincerely,
