Sample Letter to Parents at the Beginning of Year

By | January 3, 2015

The beginning of the year is the right time to let parents know what is in store for their children during the rest of the academic year. Communicating with parents at the beginning of the year is important for many reasons. Firstly, you need to connect with parents to assure them that they will be updated about information regarding school activities. Secondly, you need to reiterate to them when school will reopen and provide them with details on how they need to go about school activities once school does open.

Beginning of the year letters are usually sent by school principals but it is really up to the school to decide who will write them. Many times, each class teacher is required to write a welcome letter to parents of students in her own class. Either way, the basic idea behind writing a letter of this sort is to reach out to parents and put their minds at ease and to inform them of upcoming events and evaluations.

Below is a sample of a letter to parents to mark the beginning of the year. Have a look!

Subject: Welcome Back to School

Dear Parents:

Welcome back to the Regents School of Baytown! As the holidays end, we are all excited to get back to school and into a routine that significantly defines us. The last part of the academic year was amazing to say the least – primary school students of Regents School of Baytown did a wonderful job, both academically and during sports activities.

During the first two weeks of school, we will be revising all that we have accomplished in 2014. This activity is done to make sure that your child does not feel pressurized into learning new concepts as well as recalling ones that have already been taught, before the three week holiday. Once we know that all students are at par with each other, we will continue with our regular class instruction procedures.

The year 2015 has much in store for us and your child. We are happy to announce that we are now an International Baccalaureate candidate school and will be accredited by June this year. A separate letter will be sent to you with details regarding this program. Additionally, our sports day is scheduled for the middle of April for which preparations will begin at the end of this month. We also have three plays and a musical show that we are working on and will provide you with details of all very soon.

From time to time, you will be receiving correspondence from us regarding your child’s academic performance and the activities that he / she is involved in at school. News of any additional activities will be communicated to you as and when they are planned. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact us at (555) 555-5555 and we will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Linda Holland
