Thank you letters or emails are sent following many situations. You might want to acknowledge another person for their business or interest in a project, or you might want to thank them for considering you for a particular position. In the latter situation, you will most probably write a thank you letter after an interview. A letter of this type is also known as a ‘post-interview thank you letter.’

A thank you for your consideration letter is typically used to show your gratefulness to the interviewer who took out the time to speak with you and to reiterate your interest and skills for a particular position. While you do not need to repeat the information in your cover letter, you may want to stress your skills somewhat and maybe mention how enlightening your meeting was.

Your purpose for writing a thank you letter may also be because you don’t want to be lost in the midst of hundreds of faces that the interviewer has interviewed. Mentioning something (an the incident that transpired between you and the interviewer perhaps) in your letter will help the interviewer recall you and may even give you preference over the others.

Here is how you can write a thank you for your consideration letter.

Ms. Beatrice Zyle
Manager Human Resources
Remington Steel Works
2 Glendale Avenue
San Diego, CA 29012

Dear Ms. Zyle:

Thank you for considering me for the position of Sales Manager at Remington Steel Works. The twenty-five minutes that we spent talking about the company’s vision and how you foresee taking it to the heights that the company deserves were very enlightening. Even though I was at this side of the interview table, I could not help but envision the future of the company and my role in it.

I have been reflecting on the insight that you provided me with about the Sales Galore project that you are presently in the process of initiating. As I mentioned, I completely believe that you have hit the nail right on the head with what you proposed. I think that I have the sales acumen and necessary salesforce development knowledge that you are looking for and together, I am sure we can take this to the epitome that you wish for.

Once again, I would like to thank you for considering me for this position. I anticipate that our next meeting will be more fruitful and will serve as a deciding point. If you need any further information from me, please do not hesitate to call me at (333) 333-3333.

Sincerely,

Gale Yates
