Child support payments are sometimes hard to obtain from non-custodial parents who have little or no idea about how a custodial parent is handling the expenses associated with raising children. Upon separation or divorce, the court usually decides what amount needs to be paid to the custodial parent, and also charts out an effective payment plan. However, if the non-custodial parent does not oblige, the first step a custodial parent needs to take is write a child support payment request letter.
A request letter for child support payments needs to be written in a polite manner – even if you haven’t received payments for a certain time, it pays to be polite so that you do no antagonize the other person. Detail how hard it is to bring up a child with inflation at an all-time high, and the fact that you do not earn enough to handle the expenses. Plead to his or her good nature and ask them to send in the payment as soon as possible. Do not make threats of going to the authorities in case the payments don’t come through. Instead, ask if there is anything that you can do to make things easier for the non-custodial parent so that he or she can timely send you the payments.

Dear Henry:
My intention has never been to bother you with the trivialities of my daily life, which is why I haven’t written to you all these months that you have failed to deposit child support payments in my account. Thankfully, I had been able to handle our daughter Carissa’s expenses without much problems.
Last month, I lost my job due to a major layoff at the company where I had been working for 3 years. While I was given some money as a kindness by the company, I am afraid that it is insufficient to get us through for long. Carissa is now growing up and has a lot of needs that is our responsibility to fulfill. Her birthday is coming up next month, and she is due to leave for a camping trip in late January. All this requires financial stability that I cannot boast of right now.
I would appreciate it if you would restart the child support payments immediately so that I can look after Carissa as well as she deserves to be looked after. If possible, please send a part of the missed payments along with current payments as soon as possible. Once I am back on my feet, I am sure we can come to a financial arrangement that will suit you well.
Thank you,
Sincere regards,
