The last decade or so has seen some severe cuts in jobs due to the global recession. Many companies have had to downsize their staff just because they could not afford to pay salaries; others had to shut down a part of the organization or the entire company due to barely standing on break-even points.
Termination letters are a norm nowadays especially in the event when a company is closing down. Writing a termination letter is not a particularly pleasant task, but some circumstances demand that this is done! When you begin writing a termination letter, you will need to put down all the facts in it – why a company is closing down, notice period and remuneration information needs to be provided to the employee who is being terminated.
Below is a sample of a termination letter written to an employee due to a company closing down:

Mr. John Mason
Marketing Manager
Shamrock Sports and Entertainment
1009 W Cayuga Avenue
Oswego, NY 12736
Dear Mr. Mason:
With a heavy heart, I officially announce the decision to close down Shamrock Sports and Entertainment on a permanent basis. We have experienced much difficulty in staying afloat for the past six years, and I believe that it is now time to bring things to a close before we suffer any more losses.
Shamrock Sports and Entertainment has enjoyed an incredible team since its inception in 2005, and we crossed some significant milestones in the first two years. However, circumstances now do not allow us to continue working with the same enthusiasm that we exhibited back in 2006 when we had our first breakthrough with the Clinix account.
As you have been working with Shamrock Sports and Entertainment since it came into the business and we sincerely appreciate your professionalism and loyalty to the company. Without a doubt, we could not have successfully run the Clinix campaign without your input and hard work.
December 31, 2018, will be our last operational day. As part of our retrenchment policy, you will be given a six-month salary which should suffice you until you find another position. You may contact Ms. Dayla Davidson (HR Manager) for further details on this. We will keep your records with us, and if in future we can manage the takeoff of a similar company, you will be our first choice for a same position.
We do not consider this the end; we hope that you will be successful in everything that you do from this point.
Sincere regards,
Frank Herbert
