Child support means a lot to a single parent.
But if one parent has not given child support for a long time, the other can forgive him. This can be done through the court.
All you have to do is write a letter to the court through which child support payments are processed, telling them that you have forgiven the arrears.
In your letter, you must make sure that you highlight the reasons for forgiveness.
For instance, you may want to say that you forgive the arrears so that the parent can move on and pay future monies.
You must highlight why you have done this, and what you are going to do since you have not received payments in the past.
It is important to note that your letter will make it possible for the other parent to make arrangements for further payments, without dwelling on what he owes previously, thus making the chances of payment much greater.
What follows is a child support arrears forgiveness letter sample that you can use to write your own:

Dear Mr. Bason:
This is with reference to my case number FC-9837-883. I would like to bring to your notice that the child support payments for this case have not been received for 5 months. Upon talking to Mr. Fulton, I realized that he was going through a financial crunch, which is why he has not been able to make the payments on time.
I recently got an insurance payout upon maturation of a policy. This amount is sufficient for me to handle my child’s expenses that I owe to certain facilities (since there was a lapse in child support from her father). I am writing this letter to officially forgive the child support arrears that Mr. Fulton owes to me. I am sure that once his circumstances look up, he will be able to make payments on time, and any arrears will just make things slower.
In view of all this, I request that you let Mr. Fulton know about the change in our agreement. However, I expect all future payments to be made on time. I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,
Miranda Cooper
