Before you begin writing a cover letter to apply for a childcare position, imagine yourself in the interviewer’s place and ask yourself, “what type of person will you hire?”
This way, you will be able to determine what you need to write so that you appear as “that kind of person.” Keep your cover letter short and simple – you cannot expect the reader to go through pages and pages of how good you are.
Communication through a cover letter should be done professionally and enthusiastically, but there is certainly no place for slang.
Opening
In the opening, describe how you heard about the vacant position and attempt to capture the reader’s interest by writing in an engaging manner.
Body
The body of the letter should be able to relate your background to the job qualifications. The trick is to use terminology that you think a prospective employer will expect you to use.
Closing
Be direct when you close your letter – ask for an interview and let them know that you will follow up.
Your cover letter should be based on these three:
- Piquing interest
- Getting down to business
- Wrapping it up quickly
