Sample Apology Letter for Disrespectful Behavior

By | March 14, 2017

Thanks to Shakespeare, inventor of new words, we are able to express an emotion as complex as contrition and guilt, wrapped in humiliation and self-deprecation, in three compelling words: I am sorry. Genius!

The art of apologizing evolved from words said in defense against an accusation, to this! Easier said than done, though, is the apologizing itself.

The good news is this art perfected over millennia, cultivated through as many years of grooming as there are stars in our galaxy has now become another life hack. Just say the magic words, all balmy and humble, and hearts heal, and bridges mend.

Everyone goes through a moment that is not their finest, and when words are said, or things are done that hurt and offend, and show disrespect, a sincere apology is in order, and it is best offered at the moment of realization. Here is a sample letter that flows in a natural order or admission of one’s fault, acceptance and ownership, and the appreciation and respect of a chance at making amends.

Here is how to do this:

Ms. Hannah Paul

Tulsa, OK 74120

Dear Ms. Paul:

On behalf of ABC Store, please accept our sincere apologies for how you were treated by our staff when you came to shop at our store. The sales clerk Andy’s behavior towards you was disrespectful and absolutely unacceptable. We feel terribly for that and have taken disciplinary action; Andy has been suspended until further notice.

Ms. Paul, we are deeply distraught and concerned after hearing you left the store in tears. I cannot stress what a sad day it has been for us here at ABC Store. I want you to know that we do not tolerate this sort of behavior and that we respect our customers immensely. We are re-training our staff so that such an unfortunate incident does not occur in the future, and we assure you this will never happen again.

As a token of our respect for you, this enclosed gift voucher is for your next purchase, of any of our fall collection items, valid for 30 days. The information that was given to you by him about alterations was incorrect. We absolutely do alterations and will tailor-fit to your specifications, exactly as you will instruct. We are happy to give you a free consultation for any solution you are looking for.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and helping us become better, and hope to see you visit our store again soon.

Regards,

Halle Holden
