Sample Welcome Letter to the New Boss

By | February 4, 2016

Knowing that you will soon be supervised by a new boss may be a bit daunting, but you can do away with the fears of this “newness” by writing a welcome letter to him or her. You are right; it was never standard practice to welcome a new boss by writing a letter to him but it is no faux pas now. You can actually welcome a new boss and you will not be thought of as overly frank or out of line. And what will you gain out of this? You will get a chance to break the ice with someone who will be overseeing your work (and probably breathing down your neck while doing it), and there will be fewer chances of defensiveness at the part of the new entrant! A complete win-win situation!

A little bit of praise is alright to put in a letter to your new boss. You may have been introduced to him (either in person or through a verbal introduction by a human resource manager) so you will probably know his achievements and high ranking. Talk about them. Tell him that you are happy that someone with his benchmarks will be supervising you. But make sure that you do not sound sugary sweet or you will be deemed as someone who is prone to buttering up the boss!

And you can use the following letter sample to word your own letter to the new boss!

Dear Ms. Perkins:

The Kraft Heinz Marketing Team is delighted at the thought of you leading us through what we consider “many amazing professional journeys”. Your level of professionalism, your legacy, achievements and milestones and your wisdom is not unknown to us and we hope that some of it will rub off on the team as well.

Welcome to the Kraft Heinz Company! Here, we deem professionalism, exceptional customer services and a high standard of quality the “be all and end all” of our existence. Our marketing staff is thrilled to work with you and to take guidance from you which will make our existing work processes even more profound than they already are.

To get you acquainted with your staff, I have enclosed a list of the personnel whose work you will be overseeing, as directed by Amy Shroff (human resource manager), and I will be happy to assist you with anything that you might want deeper insight into. As the team supervisor, I will be your primary point of contact.

Welcome aboard once again! I look forward to meeting with you in person soon.
