Sample Christmas Letter to Teacher

By | November 10, 2014

Should you write a Christmas letter to your teacher? Of course, you should! Things have changed dramatically over the last few years. Where it was once considered too ‘fresh’ to write a letter to a teacher to wish her for anything, it is appreciated nowadays.

A Christmas letter to your teacher can be both casual and formal depending on your relationship with the teacher. If you are close to your teacher, you can use a somewhat casual tone; if you are writing a Christmas letter to her because it is ‘the’thing to do and you do not have a great relationship with her, by all mean,s use a formal tone.

If the school permits, you may also ask your teacher over for Christmas dinner or a Christmas party at your place however, many schools do have certain ideas on what a teacher-student relationship should be so you might want to be careful in what you ask for!

In a Christmas letter to your teacher, you can simply wish her, mention what your plans over the holidays are and close the letter on a polite note. Given below is a sample Christmas letter to a teacher from a student that you can derive ideas from to write your own.

Dear Ms. Eldred:

I am writing this letter to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am certain that you are enjoying your holidays and the much needed time with your family. I am also having quite a good time but I do miss our English lessons and the charming ways in which you imparted them.

During the holidays, I have been busy reading the books that you recommended; as you anticipated, my favorite is The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. When I get back to school, I would like to discuss “The Life and Death of a Man of Character.” I must say Michael Henchard has really inspired me just as you said he would!

On December 20, my friends and I are organizing a charity drive where will be giving toys and clothes to unprivileged children. You and I have often discussed the spirit of charity and it is during one of my conversations with you that I felt that it was time that I did something concrete for charity purposes. It would be great if you could also join us (and supervise our activities) and help us with in our endeavors. What better time to do some charity work than around Christmas!

I wish you a very Merry Christmas once again and anticipate seeing you for the charity drive.

Sincere regards,

Ian Manson
