Apology Letter for Being Late Sample

There really is no excuse to come in late to work. Many people depend on your punctuality, (clients included) so arriving late means that you are putting them all at a disadvantage. The person who will suffer most is your immediate boss. He is the one who will have to answer to the clients and probably his own supervisor. So it is quite unfair to him.

But if you were put into a situation where you had no choice but to arrive late to work, there is only one thing that you can do to make amends – and that is to apologize. Sorry is a word often overused by us and may not hold the same meaning if used vocally. You will need to be a little more eloquent in your apology. Writing an apology letter is a much better way of apologizing than merely saying “sorry.”

So let us now determine what possible reasons you can provide for arriving late to work. Here are a few:

• Being unwell or a family member falling sick
• Flat tire or traffic problems
• Waking up late

There may be many more but these are the most common. Now, let us pick one reason from the short list and give you a sample apology letter for being late to work.

Dear Mr. Cosby:

Please accept my genuine apology for arriving late to work today. I am aware that our department is presently going through deadline turmoil and even one teammate’s absence or late arrival can have a humongous effect on the overall performance of the rest.

I was feeling quite under the weather this morning and initially considered taking the day off. I had stomach cramps all night and was unable to sleep well. Around 9 in the morning, I felt a little better after having taken a pain pill and drinking ginger tea. It was at this time that I felt that I could perhaps go in for a few hours or even the rest of the day if my condition held out. Hence, I reached the office at 10, which I realize is a full hour late.

Today’s tardiness was not in my control (and the first ever in my record) and I will try not to let it happen again. I apologize for the inconvenience it caused you and the rest of the team members.

Thank you very much for your kindness.

Sincerely,
