Resignation Letter due to Health Issues

By | March 28, 2017

It is possible that when you have specific health issues, you could take some time off from work and maybe even have a paid vacation. However, if the situation is severe and you suffer from a terminal disease or a condition that makes you unfit to work, then there is no choice left but to resign.

If you find it possible to be able to give a one month’s notice in your resignation, then it will make everything more comfortable for your employer. You should explain your condition clearly in the letter and how it makes you unfit to work. It is recommended to attach your medical file as proof.

You might be unhappy about leaving your job; however, with the advancement of medicine, you may find yourself able to work again for the same company. Here is a sample resignation letter to assist you in this regard:

Mr. Michael Leone
Human Resource Manager
Miller Industries
379 Ferrell Street
Duluth, MN 55811

Dear Mr. Leone:

Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from my post as chief repair engineer for Miller Industries.

The reason which has led me to resign from this job, at which I excelled, is that I have been recently diagnosed with lung cancer and am starting chemotherapy and radiation therapy at the end of the month. I have been advised to stay away from heavy smoke and chemicals. Since this is a heavy machinery factory which specializes in making tractors, there is no way I can avoid those at work.

Other than that, after the chemotherapy has begun, I will be in no physical condition to perform the heavy lifting and strenuous activities, which are required while repairing the factory machines. That will lead to me being inadequate at performing the essential tasks outlined in my contract.

I understand that there a few things which require discussion, for which I hope to have a meeting with you soon. I plan on working until the end of the month, so that I may be able to assist my replacement in training.

SIncere regards,
